The Light Seat
Historically the light seat is build on the balance of the deep seat. It allowed the horse greater movement of the back while jumping and traversing rough terrain at speed. Today, the light seat has replaced the deep seat, as the unskilled light seat is less harmful to the horses back. The modern light seat is still out of sync with the horse’s natural balance but it allows the legs to absorb some of the shock of riding.
Since this resource is geared for professional horsemen the correct balance of the light seat is developed in the deep seat and that is where the professional horseman should focus his resources.
